build the fundamentals
these are the three courses that form the foundation of sketching with confidence.
together these courses are designed for beginners, design students and professionals who have reached a plateau.
there is no such thing as a ‘sketching gene’ - we can all learn to sketch, but the traditional methods of teaching and learning design sketching only work for a small number of us!
What people say:
‘I recently bought the Fundamental Mechanics of Design Sketching course as a means of improving my urban sketching. I have to say that the course is excellent and has really improved my confidence and ability when drawing. My lines are cleaner and more fluid and a great deal of my fear of filling a blank page has disappeared. All the videos are high quality and your descriptions and demonstrations of each element are really clear. The value in the course is in actually doing the exercises right from the beginning. It’s easy to fall into the trap of thinking that understanding the principle is enough - it isn’t. I also found great benefit in reviewing the videos again. Invariably I would find an additional subtlety that I’d missed in the first viewing. I’ve incorporated your fundamentals into a daily practice routine which only takes a few minutes and is a great warm-up. I highly recommend your course to anyone that wants to improve their sketching, the fundamentals aren’t just for designers!’ - Mr b
‘Fundamentals of perspective - It is exactly what I was looking for’ - Marcel
‘This course on perspective fundamentals was extremely valuable for my development. It clarified the relationship between objects and the underlying cube structure used to build them. Learning how to construct forms inside a cube allowed me to understand their proportions, orientation, and spatial behavior much more clearly. As a result, I can now draw objects from any perspective angle, not by guessing, but by relying on solid 3D construction principles. The course successfully bridged the gap between theory and practical application’. - Mirna
‘I’m incredibly grateful to have Chris as a teacher and mentor in my design sketching journey.
Chris was one of the first people I started following on social media when I decided to seriously learn design sketching. What drew me to his teaching was not just his skill, but the way he breaks down the fundamentals of mechanics and, equally importantly, mindset.
One of the biggest things I’ve taken away from Chris’s teaching is learning to commit to the line while still being loose and confident. That sounds like a contradiction, but his approach helped me understand exactly what it means. He constantly reinforces the importance of keeping the hand moving, not overthinking every line, and allowing the sketch to be messy in the beginning. Somehow, if you keep going, that mess gradually starts becoming clarity. That has helped me get out of my head and actually put pen to paper.
His course on cast shadows was particularly challenging for me. It was something I really struggled to understand, but Chris has a wonderful ability to break complicated ideas down into small, manageable pieces. What I appreciate even more is that he doesn’t stop at creating good lessons. When I’ve had doubts, he has taken the time to respond personally and, on more than one occasion, sent me his own sketches to explain what I was struggling with.
That level of personal attention is incredibly rare. Chris doesn’t know me personally, yet whenever I’ve reached out, he has made the effort to respond thoughtfully and genuinely help. In a world where everyone is busy, I don’t take that for granted.
Thank you, Chris, for being such a generous teacher, for sharing not just your skills but your way of thinking, and for making the process of learning design sketching feel less intimidating and much more enjoyable. I’m very grateful to have found your work so early in my journey’. - sangeetha
